Why is "Natural Soap" important?
Most commercial "soaps" aren't even really soaps at all. They are detergents made from petroleum derivatives. Too many companies claim to sell natural products, but use colors, artificial scents and other additives that can be irritating to your skin. Not us. Because your skin absorbs everything that is put on it-good and bad-we use only ingredients that contribute skin care benefits to the soap. We never use colorants, or synthetic fragrances in our soaps.
Is this glycerin soap?
Why, yes, it is. But not like you think. Sally's Soaps are not the transparent soaps that recently have come into vogue. While they are not translucent, they do contain glycerin. Luckily for soap makers, glycerin is a natural by-product of making soap. This rich emollient is a commodity in high demand and many commercial companies strip their soaps of glycerin and sell it to other industries. Cold-processed soaps retain all their glycerin, resulting in a gentle, moisturizing bar. "Cold-process" refers to the method of making opaque, poured soap. These soaps tend to be better suited to sensitive skins than actual transparent, or "glycerin" soaps because the latter is made with alcohol, which also can be drying to the skin.
What is handmade aromatherapy soap?
Aromatherapy soap is made with and for the effect of true essential oils. Why only essential oils? Because the human olfactory system plays a crucial part on our physiological selves, some essential oils can contribute much toward the health of our bodies. Other oils prove themselves worthy externally in their use as analgesics, insect repellants, disinfecting agents, and more. These essences have been used for spiritual, cosmetic and medicinal purposes for thousands of years.
All scented Sally's Soaps and candles contain essential oils and not synthetic fragrance oils, whose aromatherapy benefits are questionable.
Do you have any soaps for dry or sensitive skin?
Actually, all of the soaps in the line are suited toward those with skin that tends to dry out using commercial brands. Because emollient oils and natural ingredients are used to make the soap, the end result is a bar that nourishes the skin in a way that no commercial product really can. If your skin tends to be dry, even using handmade soap with its natural glycerin, I would suggest using those soaps with essential oils that aren't astringent in nature, as citrus or mint oils can be. Bear in mind that your skin may be sensitive to the FD&C colorants in other soaps and in that case, any of Sally's Soaps would work well for you.
For rough, dry, damaged or sensitive skin, try Nature's Balm or other Specialty Line soaps. Many are made with a larger percentage of highly emollient oils and butters.
How long do your natural soaps last in the shower?
Because Sally's Soaps have been allowed to cure for 3 weeks or longer, extra water has evaporated. This means that the bars are hard and will last in the bath. Keeping the bar out of the stream of the showerhead insures a longer bar, also. Any time you can let the bar dry out before the next usage, the longer it will last. This is why we sell draining soap dishes, but any wire rack in the shower will do.
Will the scent last?
Sally's Soaps are made with essential oils, not perfumes or synthetic fragrance oils. The scents in the bars will last to the very last sliver of the natural soap.
Can I find your products in a store near me?
The only place you will find Sally's Soaps is right here on the web or at local shows in the Northern Virginia area. Currently we do not sell our products to stores.
